I think the quote means that say your friend says that she made a card for you, if you say that it's REALLY ugly, then you're putting your friend down and the next thing you know, you are going to be the one that will be going down. But if you say Thank You, I really appreciate this, then not only do you make your friend happy but you also make yourself go up! This is a good way to change the world!
i think that this quote means that people have to give other people the same rights that we have.And that if we dont give them equal rights like not listen to what he/she is saying.and thsat if we dont give them equal rights and put them down then in some part of life,you will get put down.

This reminds me of my own schooldays when our teacher always reminded us to use the "Golden Rule"....which is "Do unto others...". This simply means we should always treat others the way we ourselves expect to be treated.
